The RBC Heritage Golf Tournament: A must see event for all golf enthusiasts

The RBC Heritage Golf Tournament is one of the most prestigious events in the world of golf, attracting top players from around the globe, captivating golf fans and showcasing the talent and skill of the world's best players.

This tournament, held annually at the iconic Harbour Town Golf Links has become a symbol of excellence, sportsmanship, and tradition. The inaugural edition of the RBC Heritage took place in 1969, just two weeks after the Masters Tournament, and was originally known as the Heritage Classic. While it may not have the history and age of other golf tournaments, the RBC Heritage quickly established itself as a prestigious event on the PGA Tour.

From the iconic lighthouse overlooking the 18th green to the picturesque setting of the Harbour Town Golf Links, the tournament's organizers have worked diligently to maintain its unique identity and charm. The course itself, designed by famous golf course architect Pete Dye, presents a challenging yet beautiful layout that demands precision and strategy from the players.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the RBC Heritage has also become renowned for its commitment to philanthropy and community outreach. The tournament has raised millions of dollars for local charities and organizations, making a positive and lasting impact on the greater Hilton Head Island community.

The RBC Heritage Golf Tournament has also provided fans with unforgettable moments off the green. From the annual Tartan Day Parade to the Heritage Champions Walk, the tournament embraces its Scottish heritage and creates a unique and festive atmosphere for spectators. These off-course highlights add to the overall experience and make the RBC Heritage a truly special event.

We had the privilege of attending all six days of the 2023 tournament -- it did not disappoint. With Coastal Chic just a short 1000 ft. from the first green and the second tee block, the location is more than convenient! We were able to beat the crowds and parking headaches by making the short walk to take in all the action. When we got too hot or needed a break we headed back for lunch, took a quick dip in the pool to cool off and made it back to our chairs without missing much of the action. You are so close to the tournament, even the famous Goodyear Blimp is overhead each day.

This year's tournament was a nail biter. In a sudden death playoff, Matt Fitzpatrick beat fan favorite, Jordan Speith on the third hole of the playoff round. Fitzpatrick, an English professional, who shot to golf stardom in 2015 after winning the British Masters and then his first major championship at the U.S. Open in 2022, grew up playing golf in Hilton Head, where his family vacationed annually. He said “Coming here as a kid, to tournament this place means alot to me. I loved it. Aside from Augusta National, it is favorite golf course”.

The support and dedication of sponsors and locals go hand in hand, creating a symbiotic relationship that fuels the success of the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament. Their collective efforts ensure that the tournament continues to thrive year after year, attracting top players, enthusiastic spectators, and worldwide attention.
